Kevin Durant In Sand

Testing the adage that champs are made in the offseason, Kevin Durant has taken to sand-dune training to keep up his game-winning intensity.

Sand-dune training consists of running intervals (various distances to and from a single starting point) up and down a sand dune. The resistance that the uneven, unstable sand provides creates a more intense workout that Durant hopes will help build his speed. These aren’t your idyllic beach dunes, either: Durant trains at a course in California where the incline of the dune is perfect for this kind of interval-based training.

The former NBA MVP suffered some knee injuries at the start of his offseason. It seems fitting that he would take to sand training for a low-impact, high-intensity regimen while he’s recovering. Check out the clip below to see for yourself:
